About

Thomas J. Craner

Tom Craner is the founder and CEO of Craner Capital and a partner and wealth management advisor at Strategic Planning Group in Bountiful, Utah.

For more than a decade, Tom has helped individuals and families make thoughtful decisions about their investments, retirement, estates, and financial futures.

His approach begins with a simple idea: a financial plan should make your life easier to understand, not more complicated.

For some clients, that means building an investment strategy, preparing for retirement, or making sure their financial plan is headed in the right direction.

For families with substantial wealth, the work often becomes broader. Multiple investment accounts, businesses, real estate, trusts, insurance policies, beneficiaries, tax considerations, and estate documents can gradually create a financial life that is difficult for any one person to keep completely organized.

Tom helps bring those pieces together.

The goal is not complexity for its own sake. It is to create a clear understanding of what you own, how everything fits together, what should happen next, and how the people and assets you care about can be better prepared for the future.

Tom lives in northern Utah with his wife and their two daughters.

The work

Peace of mind when there is a lot to keep straight.

Good wealth management begins with investments and retirement planning, but it does not always end there.

As wealth grows, so can the number of financial decisions surrounding it. Investment accounts may sit alongside businesses, real estate, trusts, insurance policies, retirement plans, private investments, and other assets. Different attorneys, accountants, family members, and advisors may each understand one part of the picture without anyone having a clear view of the whole.

Craner Capital helps clients bring that picture together.

The objective is straightforward: know what you have, understand how it is structured, make sure it reflects your intentions, and prepare thoughtfully for what comes next.

01

Discovery

Understand the complete financial picture.

We begin by identifying the important pieces of your financial life — investment accounts, retirement assets, real estate, businesses, insurance, estate documents, and other significant interests.

For more complex families, this may also involve coordinating with attorneys, accountants, assistants, or other professionals who already help manage parts of the family’s affairs.

The first step toward making good decisions is knowing exactly what exists and how it all fits together.

02

Organization

Make sure the pieces work together.

As assets accumulate over a lifetime, it is common for accounts, ownership structures, beneficiaries, estate documents, and financial plans to evolve at different times.

We help identify areas that may deserve attention and work with your other professional advisors when appropriate so that your financial arrangements more closely reflect what you actually intend.

The goal is a financial life that is easier to understand today and easier for your family to navigate in the future.

03

Continuity

Plan thoughtfully for the people who come after you.

A good financial plan should consider not only your lifetime, but what happens afterward.

We help clients think through inheritance, estate, and tax considerations and coordinate with their attorneys and tax professionals when specialized legal or accounting work is required.

The objective is not simply to accumulate wealth. It is to leave behind greater clarity — so your family understands what exists, where it is, and what you intended to happen with it.

The practice

Comprehensive planning, whether your financial life is simple or substantial.

You do not need an extraordinarily complicated financial life to benefit from thoughtful advice.

Craner Capital works with individuals and families who want their finances managed with care, discipline, and a long-term perspective.

As wealth becomes more substantial, the same philosophy continues to apply — with additional attention given to the organization and coordination that larger estates often require.

Areas of focus

  • Investment management and retirement planning
  • Estate organization and inheritance planning
  • Identifying and organizing significant family assets
  • Reviewing how accounts, ownership, and beneficiaries fit together
  • Coordinating financial decisions with attorneys and CPAs
  • Helping families make sense of increasingly complex financial lives
  • Long-term planning for substantial and high-net-worth estates

The objective throughout is the same: a financial life that is organized, intentional, and built around what matters to you.
